Matscher Alm – or Matscher Kuhalm – is nestled in a varied landscape that ranges from dry slopes to high-alpine glacier regions, and is home to a botanical uniqueness.

To the plant species from Central Asian and Mediterranean regions, adapted to this rugged climate, are now added culinary ideas from around the world, refined and creatively plated by Fabian Raffeiner with fresh, local ingredients.

The Matsch valley is the first mountaineering village in South Tyrol and part of the Bergsteigerdörfer der Alpen initiative – a network for gentle, sustainable alpine tourism.

About us

The family behind the alm

Matscher Alm is run with great passion by Fabian, Jasmin and their son Jakob.

Fabian Raffeiner is no ordinary alpine host. Born in Trafoi, he was owner and head chef at the «Zoe» restaurant in Bern's old town, awarded one red and one green Michelin star.

But the longing for home and his love for family were stronger: for Jasmin and son Jakob he returned to South Tyrol.

At Matscher Alm Fabian now combines his star-kitchen experience with honest Vinschgau tradition – grounded, creative and with the best view you'll find in high-altitude dining.

Whether for a Marend, a good glass of wine, a delicious Kaiserschmarrn or simply to take a deep breath…
